Known as the Jewel in the Crown, this day is most stunning. At the few short sections where you gain elevation we suggest you walk so you can really appreciate the West Coast’s true beauty.

Day three departs from Cowboy Paradise at Milltown. Ride through paddocks and bush to the stunning newly built suspension bridge over McPherson Gorge towards Kawhaka Pass.
Carry on through the untouched Podocarp forest to the Waitaiki Reserve. Follow water races and weirs full of mountain fresh water. The trail descends past the foot of the Southern Alps, Great Alpine Fault line and crossing pack tracks and passing man-made dams.
Ride from the old Christchurch Road to Loopline Road where it connects to a sweeping boardwalk. Heading toward the Kapitea Reservoir you can appreciate the hand laid stone stockpile placed by the Chinese Settlers during the Gold rush at the spillway.
Remnants of the gold rush is visible all the way through to Kumara.
